Photo Editing

For my spread, I wanted to write a short article on philosophy and science. To accompany this, I thought I'd take my favorite photo and edit it in a fashion similar to one of Andy Warhol's famous paintings. To do this, I used Photoshop, some YouTube tutorials, and loads of trial and error. In the end, I think I can say I have created a cool piece of artwork to accompany my writing and that also goes with the theme of the magazine.
This post will detail my creative processes: how I moved from point A to point B when using Photoshop, and my thoughts and notes, among other things.

I originally came up with this idea when I was watching a video about the life and work of Andy Warhol. I thought it would be interesting and challenging to try to recreate his style using one of my images. I also believe that I could pull off something that would be very fitting for the sort of science-related article I had in mind, along with the thematic elements of the magazine as a whole.

Here I began experimenting with the placement of my subject within 4 frames.

I then realized what it was I was really trying to do, so I started from scratch. This time I cropped out my subject and started placing him into the 4 equal frames. I also applied a cartoonish artistic filter to the selection of my subject.

I begin doing more work with layers here, organizing them into layer folders and specific orders. This part is where things began getting a little confusing, but I bore through it.

At this point what was left now was to change color combinations for each individual frame. I decided to use the EGA video adapter color palette that used to be used in old computers because that was what was on my mind at the moment and I thought it would make for a stimulating image.

Here I am finalizing the image.

The final product. I think I did pretty well considering how long it has been since I had used Photoshop. I had to watch some YouTube tutorials though, which made some parts of the image's development boring. Nevertheless, I think I have a great spread image now.
